Weekend Fun

This weekend was full of a lot of leisure. Nothing was on the books and it was about time for a free weekend! Friday night I was invited to my kickboxing instructor's studio for a special night of cardio soak and yummy food! If you did the math, that was hard core workout number two for the day! Go me! After a good butt kick, Cassie and Mandy (my evening workout buddies) enjoyed a few bottles of wine. There is nothing better than enjoying wine with friends!

Saturday was a much deserved lazy day. I met a friend at XOCO, a Rick Bayless masterpiece of a restaurant. It is Rick's take of Mexican street food. Tortas and such. Because eating is my favorite pastime, I was in heaven! The rest of the day was spent lounging with my BFF Ralphie while Rich worked at a blood drive.

Saturday night was date night! When Rich got home, we went to Gioco, a small South Loop Italian eatery. We started with drinks....

I ordered a glass of Santa Marino Pino Noir and it might me my new favorite wine. It was so smooth and juicy. Just perfect. Rich followed suit and ordered a crisp Moretti.

For dinner, we dove right into entrees. After eating a loaf of bread each, an appetizer didn't seem necessary. I chose a brick oven pizza and Rich ordered pasta with a wild boar ragu. I loved my pizza. As you can see, I didn't give myself a chance to photograph it before I dug in. I promise, I'll get better. We were very pleased with both of our meals!

After we both joined the clean plate club, we spilt a large slice of tiramisu. It was obviously homemade and melted in my mouth. Again, I couldn't wait to snap a picture.
Can you see where Rich divided it equally?? Haha

Dinner was followed by a movie. We chose to see The Delima. It wasn't good. Don't waste your time.

Today was another leisurely day. It started with a yoga class with Gina Saka from Gym ID. Note to self: your half moon needs work! After yoga, we did the usual Sunday activities.... laundry, grocery shopping and more lounging around. It was a great day!

Rich made chicken breasts with organic frozen veggies from Trader Joe's for dinner. After the box of Annie's Mac and Cheese I had for lunch, carbs were not included in dinner! I need to reference my previous post and try not to be such a hungry hungry hippo!!

For dessert, I picked up a pomelo at the market. It is an Asian fruit that is a cross between an orange and grapefruit. They are sweet and a little tangy. Yum yum!

Lets hope for a few snow days this week! The highest number I have heard is 24 inches! I'll believe it when I see it!

Ciao for now!

  1. Sounds like a great weekend! It's the best when you can lounge around with our 4 legged friends.

I heart Trader Joes. I been stuck on their Oyster crackers for snacking and chocolate covered bananas! Haha.

I am thinkng about doing Yoga as well, but lacking in the flexibility area.!

I have to say I am so very jealous of the Tiramisu!! That is my favorite dessert. Someday I will take the dive and try to brave a homemade one. Now that I know what a Pomelo is I want to try it. I been buying ruby red grapfruit juice like it's going out of style and numerous pounds of oranges, lol! I need to try this.

Bring on the snow! I am ready for a few snow days:) Have a great week Sarah!!
