Welcome to week 8 of training!

Oh my goodness, is summer here!! The lakefront path is PACKED with people. I love this time of year because you start to recognize the same runners... Usually  at the same time of day, in the same spot on the path.... And it is comforting. It is the only routine aspect in my increasingly crazy life.  It is the constant in all of my variables.

I am trying to keep myself a priority this summer. Someone told me that everyone needs to keep the arrangements they make with themselves. I think this holds true for the things we do on a daily basis. I am applying this to my running. I will not ‘bail’ on myself. I will not cut corners and form bad habits that will be hard to break. If I can’t go through with promises that I make with myself, what will that say about how I treat (and think of) others? Every Monday, I look at my training schedule and I write down any adjustments or I look for an open opportunity for some cross training. The last few weeks, I have not stayed true to the promises I’ve made to myself. I have skipped workouts and cut things short. I would never bail like that to a friend, so why am I doing it to myself? Taking it one week at a time, I promise to make time for myself and I will not bail. I am going to run when I have made plans to run and I will treat myself like someone important I have plans with. It is a cutback week for most Chicago marathoners out there..... It is a perfect ‘slow’ week to start!

I will leave you with a wonderful quote I found on a napkin of all places!
"Life's too short for: grudges, fake anything, putting profits before people, over-roasted coffee, crabby people, and waiting for change to happen." I love this.  Have a great week everyone! You deserve it!
